Advocare’s Board provides strategic policy direction, overseeing the organisations planning, management and performance.
Our highly skilled Board brings diverse experiences from various industries, as well as expertise in Risk Management, Marketing, Occupational Health and Safety and Community Services.
As well as strategic governance, the Board works closely with the team at Advocare to facilitate special projects and events, and actively engages team members in strategic planning.
Brian is an experienced senior executive who has worked in different business environments across a number of financial services organisations, building and managing successful teams to achieve desired outcomes.
He has experience in business development (sales), client relationship and change management, strategy development and implementation, and risk management. Brian has qualifications in commerce, finance, investment and mortgage broking management and is a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors (GAICD).
Brian is currently working as a finance broker with a large diversified broking firm, with a team of specialized brokers in Western Australia.
Myrrhine has over 20 years’ experience in human resources, working across the mining, construction, agriculture, finance, education and health sectors.
Myrrhine has a Bachelor of Commerce Degree (Accounting and Psychology), a Post Graduate Diploma in Human Resource Management, and is a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors (GAICD).
Myrrhine has spent considerable time in senior human resources roles managing human resources functions for organisations, both in national and global departments, with client groups that range from blue collar, white collar through to executive team level. Success in these senior roles has been driven by Myrrhine’s demonstrated abilities in relationship management, consulting, project management, along with strong business acumen and leadership.
With a career spanning over twenty five years, Lina brings extensive senior executive, governance, commercial and chief financial officer experience across key public sector agencies including the Department of Treasury and the former Anti-Corruption Commission.
Lina has a Bachelor of Business Degree (Accounting) from Curtin University, is a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors (GAICD), diplomas in project management and human resources and has been a Director with Bentley & Districts Community Bendigo Bank from 2017 for 3 years.
Lina currently holds the position of Director of Business and Corporate Services at the Chemistry Centre of Western Australia. Across these roles Lina provides strategic corporate advice, is leading innovation and digital transformation, has a key role in advising on governance and risk matters and oversees financial, procurement, information services and human resources functions.
Paula has a passion for social justice and during her career has held Senior Management and high-level Strategic Management positions across many community services sectors including child protection, mental health, women’s health, justice and homelessness. Paula also has experience and expertise in training, risk management, professional supervision and coaching/mentoring.
Paula has a Bachelor of Arts Degree, a Bachelor of Social Work Degree and Post Graduate Diploma of Business. Paula is also a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors (GAICD). Paula has extensive experience in the community service sector with over 27 years’ experience as a social work practitioner, senior manager and consultant, working in government and non-government positions both in Perth and overseas.
Paula is currently a Lecturer at Curtin University and has her own consultancy business, specialising in service and community development.
Simon has over 20 years’ experience in community and government roles, constructing campaigns for change, building community capacity and managing membership organisations. Simon is also a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company of Directors (GAICD).
Before moving to Perth, Simon worked in the Labor Party and state government roles where he developed a strong skill set identifying systematic problems felt by ordinary people, helping them solve these issues through practical steps, at a local level.
After moving to Western Australia in 2001, Simon worked in communications and campaigning roles in state and federal government before being elected to head the Labor Party in WA. For seven years he led all organisational, membership and campaigning functions in WA, including the 2013 State Election campaign. In that time, he also served as a key member on the Labor Party National Executive and National Campaign Committee.
Simon is currently the CEO of Rebound Western Australia, a charity providing a supportive community for Western Australians with a physical disability and helps them access sport and recreation.
Faith is a lawyer by training, with broad experience gained in Singapore and in Western Australia.
Faith gained her broad legal practice experience from private practice, in-house, and most recently, from more than a decade in community law. As well, Faith has many years of not-for-profit management experience from running two dynamic community law practices which served the West Australian community, delivering social justice outcomes through advocacy and representation.
Throughout her role in managing the community law practices, Faith worked tirelessly with stakeholders ranging from government, community bodies, boards, as well as advocates and consumers. Faith also has some teaching experience, and has worked for many years with undergraduate and graduate law students through graduate programmes and internships. In 2019, Faith made the leap from law practice to government policy work, by joining the Mental Health Commission of Western Australia as Senior Policy Officer.
Faith has previously been on the boards of not-for-profit private schools, and is now very pleased to join the Advocare board of directors.
Christine is a respected communication consultant, who has worked in Western Australia for over 40 years. Her experience encompasses the private, public and not-for-profit sectors and a wide range of industries, services, organisations and institutions.
Until her retirement at the end of 2018 she ran a successful consultancy for 15 years in which she provided high-level strategic communications and project management advice to private and public sector clients concentrating on the planning and construction of large infrastructure projects. These included the Mandurah Rail, Optus Stadium and Station, Matagarup Bridge and the Forrestfield Airport Rail Link.
Her expertise encompasses the development of complex, strategic community and stakeholder engagement plans, project management, facilitation and training. She holds certification with IAP2 (International Association for Public Participation), RABQSA Lead Auditor Safety Management Systems, and internal auditor and project manager accreditation with SAI Global.
She holds a Bachelor of Business (Marketing & Industrial Relations) and a Graduate Diploma (Human Services) both from Curtin University of Technology.
Christine has shared her knowledge and skills by serving on academic and not-for-profit boards and advisory committees, and by providing pro bono services, public lectures and mentoring. She has served on the boards of Curtin University, Palmerston, Perth City Mission, Women’s Health Care House, Sonshine FM radio and World Vision (Perth). She spent five years as a councillor for the Public Relations Industry of Australia and served on the state committee for IAP2.
